B9 Beverages Limited - Bira

B9 Beverages Limited, incorporated in 2015 and headquartered in New Delhi, is the company behind the Bira 91 beer brand, which has built a fairly strong following among urban millennials on the back of its distinctive branding, taste and draft-beer network. The beer itself is brewed from wheat, barley and hops, and comes in formats including 330ml and 650ml bottles and 500ml cans. The entity was originally registered under the name Divya Jyoti Coaching Institute Private Limited before becoming B9 Beverages. The company now runs four breweries in India, producing a range of beer styles — light beer, strong ale, boom strong, classic beers, white ale, blonde lager and more. Interestingly, its first brewing unit was actually located in the Flanders region of Belgium, where a craft distillery made the beer using ingredients sourced from the Himalayas, France, Belgium and Bavarian farms before it was imported into India. Once the brand found early success, production shifted to India using the same ingredient sourcing. Bira 91 expanded to New York in 2017 to launch its US push, and moved into the Asia-Pacific market via Singapore in 2018.
