Power Exchange India Limited (PXIL), set up in 2008, was India's first institutionally promoted power exchange, backed jointly by the National Stock Exchange, NCDEX and several power-sector players including Power Finance Corporation, state utilities, JSW Energy, GMR and Tata Power Trading. It runs out of Mumbai, with an additional office in Delhi, offering an automated, technology-driven platform for trading electricity and related products. Regulated by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, PXIL covers multiple market segments — the Day-Ahead Market, Term-Ahead Market, Renewable Energy Certificates and Energy Saving Certificates — and handles everything from participant registration and trading through to clearing and settlement. Through transparent price discovery, efficient operations and products such as green-energy trading, PXIL has carved out a role in strengthening India's power markets, adding liquidity, and supporting the broader shift toward renewable and sustainable energy.
